Ryan Dungey began his professional career as a relatively unknown rookie, but all of that changed in 2007 when he won his first race in the Supercross Lites class. The Minnesota native would go on to win 2007 AMA Rookie of the Year, and things would only look up from there. 2009 was Dungey's breakout year, winning the AMA Supercross Lites West Championship, then backing it up with the AMA 250 Motocross National Championship. He capped off the year as part of the winning FIM Motocross of Nations team. Dungey moved to the 450 class in 2010 and immediately cemented himself as one of the best in the world, winning the AMA Supercross and 450 Motocross titles in his rookie season, as well as another FIM Motocross of Nations win. 2011 saw Dungey suffer from mechanical problems, but he still managed to add another FIM Motocross of Nations win to his resume, and last year in 2012, he returned to the top step of the podium as AMA 450 Motocross National Champion. For 2013, Dungey looks to add two more championships to his already illustrious career.2012 presents Ryan Dungey with a new challenge in his professional career. After four years of racing for Suzuki, Dungey has signed with the Red Bull/KTM team. This change in teams may seem risky as KTM has never won a championship in American Supercross or 450 Motocross, but Dungey’s experience and reunion with team manager Roger DeCoster may be the winning combination for KTM. When DeCoster signed Dungey to the Suzuki factory team in 2006, he was an unknown rookie who quickly turned heads by winning his first Supercross Lites race in Atlanta in 2007. Dungey put in solid results over the following years, and won his first professional title by taking home the 2009 AMA Supercross Lites West Championship. He went on to win the AMA 250 Motocross National Championship that same year, and represented Team USA at the FIM Motocross of Nations for his first time. Dungey moved up to the 450 class in 2010, and quickly showed that he could hold his own in the premier class. Dungey became the first rider to win the AMA Supercross and 450 Motocross titles in his rookie season. He completed his dominant 2010 season with another FIM Motocross of Nations win for Team USA. Several bike issues hurt Dungey’s championship hopes in 2011, but he finished his tenure at Suzuki with a win at the FIM Motocross of Nations. After a year without Roger DeCoster on his team, Dungey is hoping that they can make history again by working together to bring KTM its first American 450 championship.
